What Is Wordle?

Wordle is a daily five-letter guessing game that gives every player the same word each day. You have six attempts to find the answer. After every guess, the game colours each tile to show how close that letter was to the solution. The challenge is not just vocabulary — it is reading the colour feedback cleverly and pruning the candidate pool with every clue.

Key Definitions

  • Wordle — a once-a-day five-letter word puzzle in which each guess returns per-tile colour feedback.
  • Green tile — feedback meaning the letter is in the answer and in the correct position.
  • Yellow tile — feedback meaning the letter is in the answer but in a different position.
  • Gray tile — feedback meaning the letter is not in the answer at all.
  • Candidate set — the subset of five-letter words still consistent with every clue collected so far; the solver shrinks this set on each guess.

How the Wordle Solver Works

The solver mirrors the way Wordle itself reports feedback. Enter your guesses into the grid above, then click each tile to cycle its colour to match the game's response — green for a hit in the right spot, yellow for a hit in the wrong spot, gray for a complete miss. Hit Solve Wordle and the engine filters every valid five-letter word against your positional and inclusion constraints, returning every remaining candidate ranked by Scrabble points. The higher the score, the rarer the letters, so the top of the list often holds the trickiest possibilities.

Wordle Strategy Tips

  • Open with a vowel-heavy word such as ADIEU, AUDIO, or RAISE to lock in vowel positions fast.
  • Avoid reusing gray letters in subsequent guesses — they are confirmed absent from the answer.
  • If you collect multiple yellows of the same letter, the answer contains that letter twice.
  • Once two or three greens are in place, switch from exploration to confirmation: pick words that fit the pattern rather than continuing to probe.
  • Use our Wordle Words List to study common five-letter answers in advance.
  • Try our Quordle Solver if you are playing four Wordles at once.

Reading the Solver's Output

When the candidate set is small — three or four words — the solver becomes a tiebreaker tool. Pick a guess that splits the remaining candidates cleanly: ideally your next guess will rule out at least half of them no matter what colour comes back. When the candidate set is large, your priority is information gain rather than a lucky hit, so prefer guesses that test unseen letters over ones that simply retest letters you have already used. This information-theoretic mindset is the difference between a five-guess average and a three-guess average over the long run.
